Problem Booting up
Wesley wrote:
Hello, im not sure where to put this but... I am having a problem starting up my computer, it starts to boot up normally, but at the windows XP boot screen (the one with the green scrolling bar) it stops suddenly and refuses to keep going. the green bar freezes and the only thing i can do is restart. I can start my computer in safemode , and i have tried a system restore , but nothing seems to work i cannot figure out what is wrong, any help wouldbe welcome. thank you Something that is started in regular mode is failing. Since you can start in Safe Mode, go to StartRun and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Look at the Startup tab and uncheck any programs that are starting with Windows. Here is a link where you can look up names of startup programs if you're not sure what something is: http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm Now try starting in regular mode. If you can, then you know it's something that was starting and you can Sherlock it from there. Also, ask yourself "what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?" If you updated video drivers, for instance, then while in Safe Mode you can roll them back to drivers that worked (from Device Manager and the particular device's properties). Post back if you need more help. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" |
