Can their mom afford it? |

Rene You could run the 7ZIP benchmark on your own system, then compare to the numbers here. https://www.servethehome.com/amd-ryz...ion-benchmark/ The chart here, about 60% down the page, shows 7ZIP on some lesser (=affordable) processors. https://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreview...iew-benchmarks Notice that the top items in the Gamersnexus list, aren't doing better because they've run out of memory bandwidth. The 7ZIP bench is a cache-buster, so the cache isn't helping particularly. And 7ZIP has always been dependent on the speed of the memory. These expensive processors could likely use 2x to 3x more memory buses. Which would have a severe impact on the size of the CPU socket. When you're buying a machine like this, if you expect to do 7ZIP on it, you have to buy 128GB of RAM at a minimum, so there's room for all the compression dictionaries. You would not want the embarrassment of getting an "insufficient memory" message while driving your Monster Truck. Paul |

Lenovo. https://www.anandtech.com/show/15910...-for-oems-only That makes it kinda unobtanium. No Crysis for you. It means the processor won't be on Newegg. It also means there won't be CPU overclocking to be had, or running the memory modules at over-the-top speeds. Boo, and or, hiss. Paul |

Â*Â* Paul So, It seems to be in a a Lenova workstation P620 available in September starting at $4995.00. Methinks this CPU will put Apples New proposed Arm and Hammer CPUs to shame. OH dear, what I said (hides behind couch). Rene |

Methinks this CPU will put Apples New proposed Arm and Hammer CPUs to shame. you might be in for a rather big surprise. this is an example of what already exists for arm-based systems: https://venturebeat.com/2020/03/03/a...rst-80-core-ar m-based-server-processor/ Wittich said the Ampere chip is 14% better than AMD¹s fastest Epyc chip on power efficiency and 4% faster on raw performance. And it was 2.11 times better than Intel¹s rival chip on power efficiency and 2.23 times better in raw performance. He said that means you can put them in a 42-unit server rack without running out of power. The Ampere Altra runs at 3 gigahertz. https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/...-based-superco mputer-is-the-fastest-in-the-world The ARM microprocessor architecture used to be an exclusively low-power affair, but today there are full-fledged computers running on ARM chips. In fact, Apple is going to move its laptops to ARM in the coming years. Japanese technology firms Fujitsu and Riken have shown what ARM can really do with their new Fugaku supercomputer. With more than 150,000 CPUs, Fugaku has now become the most powerful supercomputer in the world by a wide margin.* |

Then hold your breath until you turn blue. I have one of them on one machine, cooling an AMD 5 3400G CPU, Never see the LEDS in my Coolermaster case, But it cools great, nearly the same temps as my other machine running an Intel i7 8700 CPU with a Coolermaster 212 EVO in the identical case.
