Default SFC asking for CD for XP Pro SP3

I'm trying to run SFC (System File Checker) and it's saying that it
needs the CD
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3

I've re-downloaded the Windows XP Service Pack 3 CD from Microsoft.com,
but that's not accepted, and I can't find anything downloadable with the
requested identification.

Am I missing some link somewhere on the MS site?

You need to integrate SP3 into your Windows XP installation CD.

(Google keywords: slipstream, "Windows XP", "service pack", nlite,
autostreamer, bbie, integrate)

Thank you. I downloaded, and installed, and created the files needed to
be copied to the new slipstreamed CD. For a different reason I had to
re-boot before I actually burned the CD. When the system came up, the
original need for running SFC had magically fixed itself, so I haven't
actually tried to run SFC using the new CD for its file source.

Maybe the system just knew it was going to be fixed and gave up trying
to intimidate me!

Thanks again! That information and utility will come in very handy.

sfc as well as a method called
repair installation required to
be the same version.

you can either uninstall sp3
via add/remove programs and
then use your sp2 cd "or"

you can merge the sp3 file
with your sp2 files on the cd
to make what is called a
slipstream.

the result if properly performed
will provide you with an sp3 cd.

on the other hand, you may not
need to run an sfc at this time.

there are several methods to
improve windows performance.

for example you might try a
clean boot first

then try to run the recovery console
from yours sp2 cd and run some
disk commands.

the recovery console is version
friendly.

Is that what it really says or does it say:

Insert your Windows XP Professional CD-ROM now.

It is best to have a slip streamed CD of course.

It would be more entertaining to resolve your original unspecified
issue and why you think sfc /scannow would have resolved it (or it was
a long shot), unless you think a reboot fixed it.
