Default XP Sound and Video SR1710NX Desktop

Which utility in XP home is used to solve software and hardware issues with
no sound? Or Video problems? What would you do?

This Compaq Presario SR1710NX Desktop PC has perfect onboard sound.
XP Home Srv Pak 3.

An ASUS / ATI / Video card was added. The video works perfect but no SOUND.
No SOUND device in Control Panel.

The VIDEO card was removed. The onboard SOUND started working perfect.

The VIDEO card and a SOUND card / drivers / was added. No SOUND.

The VIDEO card was removed. The onboard SOUND started working perfect.

There are no errors in DEVICE MANAGER.

Which utility will solve this? What would you do? Thank you from New
Orleans

You did not name the video card, but it could be that the ATI video
card supports "audio over HDMI".

If you check the Sound control panel, you may notice that you now
have two sound devices. One may correspond to the SR1710NX onboard
sound. The second sound device may be "audio over HDMI". Make sure
the onboard sound is selected in the various places in the Sound
control panel, to restore the motherboard sound path.

HDMI is a technology capable of carrying video to your computer
monitor. But, as well, HDMI supports the carriage of audio, such
as in a home theater setup. What has happened, is the installation
of the video card and its software, has "highjacked" the audio setting,
which you should be able to correct in the Sound control panel.
