If it IS downloading and not installing, I don't see where that would be a
problem. I have done it with 7 and 8 without consequence, but if it's
already installing, I'd certainly NOT shut it down. Hard to tell what will
happen then.

If at all possible, I would err on the side of caution and let it finish
downloading and installing. You could then shut down on the reboot, and when
you turn it back on, it will finish the installation.

Windows Updates on Win 10 Technical Preview are pre-set by MSFT to
automatic. User intervention to change the configuration is not possible.

Sure not true on my installation.


As far as pausing the virtual machine, In my case I would not do it if
the update was still downloading.

Sometimes I need to reboot to get the Internet connection back.

I was wrong, thanks for the correction...

however I did find a work-around to turn it off
