For an automated version of this fix, Visit my web site, www.dougknox.com
and go to the Windows XP Fixes section. Follow the link for Remove Common
Tasks from Desktop. This small VB Script utility will modify the System
Registry to remove Common Tasks from your Desktop.

Friend with XP Pro has suddenly (he knows nothing as to why it happened)

a
2" wide white bar down the left side of screen, with "Folder Tasks",

"Other
Places" and "Details" in drop boxes. Note this is virtually the same as
what you see to the left when you open My Documents folder.

I have a suspicion he may had renamed My Documents folder at some stage,

but
he denies everything grin

It is there on the desktop and has pushed the whole of the rest of the
desktop and icons off the page to the right.

The white bar has no handles or any means to move/minimise or right

click
on
it. It is there as soon as the desktop appears.

Any help on how to remove?
