Default XP and HP -in-1 Priting/scanning problems

Hoping someone can give a clue, or even better, a
possible solution. I have Dell Dimnension 4300 with XP
Home Edition.

Recently installed an HP printer/scanner/copier. All
worked or a few weeks, but problems began with the "HP
Director"......

#1. Monitor turns black for a moment and image returns
looking out of focus and strange colors.

#2. The scan funtion "will not operate from the HP
Director." I get an error message that says: "check your
USB port to make sure the psc is connected, or "there is
no two way communication, check to make sure the USB is
connected properly.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software several
times, I downloaded software upgrade from the HP web
site, HP sent me 2 different copies of updated software,
& HP spent hours on the phone giving me support and
trying fixes (updating drivers, etc.).
The 2210 will print, copy and "even scan," from the
buttons on the machine, but not from the Director as
intended.

I know it is probably the software but am at a loss. Any
ideas, or anyone having similar problems? I'd sure
appreciate advice.
Thanks in advance,
Kay

goto device manager and look at USB roothub properties and see if
powermangement is on, if so switch that off, when the port is switched off
by powermanagement, the software can't see it anymore.
The fact that the buttons work is because hardwaresignals are waking the
port

Hope this helps
