Event Log Error Message in XP Pro

My computer takes a really long time to get past the
Welcome screen. The "System" info in the Event Viewer
says, "Error Message: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read
from an illegal IO port address". Is this causing the
slow to boot and if so, how to fix? BIOS upgrade? HELP!
