unable to open the WAVE Player
Cross posting to microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware
Thread history: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...9d2ac765778861 Since you didn't answer these questions, I will re-ask: You said this problem started suddenly. When exactly did it start? What did you do (e.g., install a new program or update or run some sort of scan) right before the problem started? (The answers to the above questions could help provide important clues.) Perhaps all you need to do is (re-)install the driver for your audio card. More info will help: 1. Model and model number of your Gateway desktop. 2. Do you have onboard sound or a separate sound card? Which is selected in BIOS? 3. In another post, you mentioned "creative SB audigy." Model number will help. 4. XP Home or XP Pro? Which Service Pack level? 5. To clarify, in Sounds and Audio Device Properties, Audio tab, what is the default device under Sound playback? "Modem #1 line playback?" In the drop-down menu, do you have any other choices? Your sound card needs to appear there! I suddenly have no audio. I ran the Pc dr. and did the audio test and the MIDI and Internet speaker test produced sound. When I do the WAV test I get the message "unable to open the WAVE Player". Under "sound" in device manager I have listed creative SB audigy, unimodem half-Duplex audio device, audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, media control devices. All say they are properly working. Any suggestions?? Open Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices. Report back the settings you see under each tab. Pay special attention to: Audio tab | Sound Playback | Default Device | Volume |
