Trying to to use Cannon MG2560 as network printer
I have a desktop computer and a laptop both running Windows 10 64 bit.
I have a Cannon MG2560 printer connected via USB to the desktop. I want to use that printer from the laptop. The driver on the desktop is set to share the printer. There is no way when installing the driver on the laptop to set it to use the network so I used add a printer. That seemed to work and the driver is installed pointing to the printer on the desktop but I can't print from the laptop. I have a laser printer on my network which the laptop will print to. |

I have a laser printer on my network which the laptop will print to. http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/8/030001...Win_EN_V02.pdf Page 416 "Settings on Print Server" Page 413 "Installing the MP drivers" The MP Drivers include a printer driver and ScanGear driver There are MP drivers here. https://www.canon.com.au/printers/pixma-mg2560/support Page 413 also contains advice on how to set up the driver on the client computer, where you cancel the "USB cable" dialog and do something else to pick up the network instance of printing provided by the proxy server machine. The proxy server machine being the machine having the MG2560 connected by its USB cable. You would want the proxy machine to be up, and have the printer on, while setting up the client machine. In any case, that fine fat manual has lots of advice. I wouldn't expect miracles of the ScanGear. While there is lots of talk about things like TWAIN, it would be unusual for a device to have a "full suite of ancient standards" in it today. Printing should be relatively easy to set up, compared to glueing together scanning. First you have to figure out what they consider "good enough" for functions like scanning, then work from there. Page 162 has "Problems with Scanning". The manual is a total of 592 pages, and more exciting than a Harlequin Romance novel. Paul |

There is a possibility that the network you are connecting to is considered to be a "public" one in which case it will block file and printer sharing by default. Simply right-click on the wireless icon, open the network settings, click Wi-Fi, click Manage Known Networks, click on the network you're using, click Properties and make sure that it is set to "Private." |

I'm not using wifi on either computer. It did say something about needing the same login on both computers so I will try adding an account to the desktop that matches the account on the laptop. |

The prinfer troubleshooter says: resource (10.0.0.48) is online but isn't responding to connection attemps. I created an account on the desktop with the same name as the account on the laptop. |

I got it working by googling the error message and following the instructions at microsoft.com. Did you hear about Mike Rowe who was sued by Microsoft? He called his chat line mikerowesoftforum. True story. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_v._MikeRoweSoft wrote: Microsoft vs. MikeRoweSoft was a legal dispute between Microsoft and a Canadian Belmont High School student named Mike Rowe over the domain name "MikeRoweSoft.com". Microsoft argued that their trademark had been infringed because of the phonetic resemblance between "Microsoft" and "MikeRoweSoft". The case received international press attention following Microsoft's perceived heavy-handed approach to a 12th grade student's part-time web design business and the subsequent support that Rowe received from the online community. A settlement was eventually reached, with Rowe granting ownership of the domain to Microsoft in exchange for an Xbox and additional compensation. |
