PSA: I have converted 3 Windows 10-S laptops to Windows 10 Home (only one gotcha)
I have converted 3 Windows 10-S laptops to Windows 10 Home
where there is only one main gotcha, AFAIK, which is that you _must_ first create (or log into) a Microsoft account BEFORE you can convert Windows 10-S to Windows 10 Home (AFAICT). Even if you specifically don't initially connect to the net, you _still_ (eventually) need to create that Microsoft account, where you can use an old account or create a new one and then delete it. If you let Microsoft _create_ a new account, it will take a month (elapsed time) to delete that newly created account, AFACR. To convert, as usual with Microsoft, there are a ton of entrances to the button, where my suggestion, for efficiency, is simply to download _any_ installer (e.g., Firefox installers work just fine) and in the process of trying to install that program, the dialog to convert from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Home comes up naturally - so you don't even have to search for the command. Just install the first thing you normally install on a new system, which, for me, is Firefox - which worked like a charm. There may be other gotchas but those are the only ones I know of so far. |
