Files Keep Saving as Encrypted
Windows 10 Pro x64 v1903
For some reason, new files are automatically being saved as encrypted (with gold lock icon in the upper-right corner). - If I remove the encryption per file or globally, I can no longer save the file to my desktop. - I used a reg file to "Take Ownership" of the file and the Desktop folder, but that didn't help. - If I remove the file's encryption and delete the file, restoring it from the Recycle Bin re-encrypts it. - If I restore the file's encryption, I can save it to my desktop. Is there a way to remove the automatic encryption without being prevented from saving files to the desktop? Any troubleshooting ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Thanks. presumably this is not bitlocker, as that applies to an entire drive and you talk about removing it per folder, so it sounds like EFS if you right click, then look at properties and advanced for e.g. c:\users\yourname\desktop do you see "encrypt contents to secure data" ticked? if you go up a level do you see the same, up again? untick it to remove it at the folder level. |

Yes, that's the way I disabled encryption per file or folder. I used secpol.msc to disable the laptop's encryption. Either way, after disabling encryption I couldn't copy/move stuff to my desktop. |
