Default print spooler not running

Penny,

If you have deleted the registry keys, that is a
pretty desperate step. Do you remember the name of the
printer which was originally problematic?

Normally, you would double click the icon for that
printer and highlight each print job within the queue
(the little white box that pops up). However, you will
need to search the registry for the name of the deleted
printer and be sure nothing is still there. Then once you
are sure of that, search for an active printer and look
for associated keys, such as queue (made up example) that
do not share the name of the active printer. If you find
such keys (related but not sharing name) then look for
orphaned keys of that nature.

IMPORTANT the above steps could reak havoc on your
system, if this is a production system you are at the
point where the best people will bow out and call for
HELP. Always remember the person who looks smartest isn't
the one who blindly fixes it themselves rather the one
who knows when to say when. Be careful and good luck.

Penny,

I had a similar problem a few days ago. Here is

what
it was, I hope it relates to yours.

A printer was failing and thus marked for deletion.
The printer had some of the failed jobs and apparently
would not delete with pending jobs in the queue. I

logged
in as admin and opened the queue and canceled all the
documents then the printer deleted and the spooler
service began functioning again.

Hope this helps,

Karl

i did all the deleting already and nothing works I still get the sub spooler
app error no matter what i do. The computer is running great though and I
just cant understand it and microsoft is no help. It just suddenly started
it like last tuesday or wednesday. Must be a glitch in XP but why all of a
sudden. And I notice in the list that lots of people are having problems
with printers and print spoolers in XP
This is my work computer and what good is it if i cant print and I have
changed printers as well.
Penny
