FujiFilm NX500 installation

I cannot get my computer to regonise this printer. When
the USB is connected it makes a 'double' noise rather than
the 'single' noise it usually makes when hardware is
connected. I have the correct driver to install the
printer but as the computer does not recognise that the
printer is connected I am not getting very far. Has any
one got any ideas?
