Is it possible to remove the background graphic from this site?
http://www.nettally.com/jrube/genjirou/genjirou.htm

The graphic makes it hard to read the pages.

Hey Billy

Your archaic HTML source contains this code:

BODY BACKGROUND="diarybg.jpg
view-source:http://www.nettally.com/jrube/genjirou/diarybg.jpg"

Just remove it.

I said archaic because it doesn't comply with the current W3C standards
and if you have many pages then you'll need to go through all the pages
and remove that code.

Have you thought of hiring somebody to redesign your site so that it
complies with modern design and standards? You should really think of
this if you want your site to be catalogued by search engines like
google and Bing. People can't find your site if it is not catalogued.

Make the browser window narrower, so the text wraps before the
right-hand side of the image.

Bill,

Is it possible to remove the background graphic from this site?

That depends on your browser.

In my version of FireFox I can select, from the toolbar at the top,
"view" - "Page style" - "no style" (as others mentioned).

I can also select "reader mode" (the open book icon at the right of the bar
showing the URL).

I can also right-click, "inspect element", select the "body" element and
erase "background" properies contents :-)

And again depending on the browser you could make the change more permanent.

In my case I've got a plugin called "Grease Monkey" installed, by which I
can use JavaScript on a selected page to alter its contents - including
deleting the above-mentioned "background" propery from the "body" element.

In short: Depending on what you have and can do you have a number of
possibilities.

Rudy Wieser

All good!

Briefly, just dragging your mouse across the text in question, so that
it is highlighted, will often make it legible. (This sometimes reveals
text that is totally invisible!)

I also have a plugin on my old Firefox called Dark Backgrounds Changer,
which provides a button which on three selective presses, cycles round
from yellow text on black, white text on black, and back to original;
I'm sure there are many other similar plugins, for modern Firefox and
for other browsers.

Indeed. Although I than opt to use CTRL+A ("select all" for the ones who
wonder).

Often helps, but not always (especially not when the CSS is ... badly
performing).

Agreed. But you often have to click with the mouse to move the focus to
the relevant part anyway, and if you're doing that anyway ... but yes,
good option.

performing).

I like your restraint (-:

I did Save As Web Page complete.

Then opened one of the JPG files in the folder that
was created, and replace the notepad texture with
white, saved the file, then opened the saved HTML
file, and that changed the background to white.

So that's a way to do it without switching off Style.

And this works because the webpage design isn't overly
complex like a lot of them are.

Paul,

Yep. Thats a method I did not even think about (even though I use it
myself).

replace the notepad texture with white

Next time just delete that image. The default background color is white.

Depends on the age of your browser. I can remember when it was grey. I
can't remember whether that was an early Firefox, or whether you had to
go back to Netscape. Meant coders could use white background for
emphasis or to differentiate their page(s).

I can't remember anything else than white. Than again, I have used (can be
certain of) just a few IE and FireFox versions.
