Fradulent Impersonator using my email addresses to post to news groups
Peter, lesson number one.
Never, ever, post your correct email address(es) in the body of a Newsgroup post as this is where many are harvested from, you have already done this 37 times in your post. If for some reason you feel the need to, munge the address, so legitimate repliers can nut out which part to remove. I suggest you think seriously about changing the two you've just posted, otherwise it will probably escalate more if you don't, plus increase the risk of excessive spam. -- Regards, johnf (Melb.) Recently I discovered by searching Google groups that there has been numerous postings made to usenet groups using my two email addresses These posts have never been made by myself, I am concerned about this identity theft and why would someone want to emulate myself on the internet news groups. The posts have been traced back to an ISP based in Port Macquarie NSW, Australia which takes its feeds off the commindico and leading edge internet network feeds. I have raised the issue with the providers concerned and hope for a resolution quickly. I would like to make one thing very clear, I have never been an options trader or have any financial interest outside my normal superannuation. I am in now way qualified to discuss matters of a financial investment and find it alarming to see someone offering advice and commentary in the aus.invest news group using these two addresses. Please disregard any future posts to your news group as they are non genuine and have not emulated from my person. If there are future posts you may check the validity of them by the following the mail server they should come from is news.ceinternet.com.au or ip address 202.74.128.1. However, I mostly post using google groups from my gmail account of xxxxxx if they do not come from either of these routes they are from the impersonator. Impersonating someone other than in a theatrical performance is classed as identity theft and carries numerous legal ramifications either in civil or criminal courts throughout the world. This person has also made postings in newsgroups that I would not wish to visit ever which is also of a concern to me and thus I find this action defamatory. I appreciate your assistance in this matter and must apologise for any misleading action this blight on society has caused by using my email address to post to news groups so giving the impression that he was Peter Saville. If anyone has any additional information on who this character might be please email me at xxxxxx any information given will be dealt in the strictest confidence. He goes under the name of bundy. Below are the posts and the trace routes provided. Peter Saville Information Technology Consultant Specialising in SME and SOHO environments. (Post to news groups are not valid unless they carry this sig file) snip |

I had to disgard my Earthlink account a year ago due to foolishly using my real address for newsgroup posts. I now have several good email addresses but use none of them for commerce or newsgroups. I still get a bit of spam (e.g., 2-3 msgs a week), which likely comes from random address generators. Nowadays I use Yahoo disposable addresses ("Addressguard") for such as newsgroup posts. Each time I dispose of one and shift to a new one, there is no spam at first and then a steady growth at the new one. When it gets obnoxious, I just create a new one and zap the old one. That way I still can get replies to posts, without burning an essential address. Of course another possibility in Peter's case is some sort of virus or worm. He should look into that, too. Phil |
