Default start menu, can't get to "all programs"

I have a weird problem. I click on the Windows start menu
(XP home edition) and it pops up like normal. I can go to
My Computer and other selections no problem, but if I
leave the mouse on "All Programs" or try left clicking to
get it to expand, I get nothing! This started just today
for no apparent reason. I had installed SP2 a while back
and it caused havoc with Wordperfect. So I uninstalled it
from AddRemove programs. Wordperfect problem I thought was
attributable to SP2 turned out to be a driver problem. So
I reinstalled SP2. Of course, my start menu problem was
happening before SP2 reinstall, so my thought was that
something was still left over from my SP2 uninstall and
perhaps reinstalling would fix this. No dice after SP2
reinstall. Norton's AV 2004 has also been buggy for me. I
finally had to uninstall it today. I will try to reinstall
at work tomorrow. But for now my main problem is this
stupid start menu thing. I had zero problems until I did
the first install of SP2 then everything went haywire and
I haven't been able to get things normal since. I can
still function by just opening My Computer and exploring
to the programs I need, but it is an annoying workaround.
I want my Start Menu/All Programs functionality back! Any
help?!
