Default Microsoft OneCare Beta

I need a little advise:

I just loaded the Microsoft OneCare Beta (free right now). The download
required me to uninstall Norton in order to load OneCare. For the last
several days, I've let OneCare take care of the computer. I don't know if I'm
supposed to reload Norton or not. A friend said that she doesn't think
OneCare is doing everything to protect us from everything. I disagree
(Ithink)!

What would you do?

Well,I wouldn't download this av beta.

It is still BETA which means not already comleted and in pre-release state
and also it has the lowest detection rate of ALL antimalware softwares.

That's why I would recommend you uninstall it and go on with your Norton
unless you really would like to make tests with it.
If you decide to keep it ,check your computer once a week using these:

That was NOT a smart idea !

You just caused yourself more problems than you need.

BTW: Are you a PAID Beta Tester ?

You were far better off with staying with NAV if you were happy with it.

i know this about onecare. it makes my desktop settings come up a lot faster
than norton does. 15 seconds with onecare. over a minute with norton. onecare
makes that one thing GREAT to me. i'm going to stick with onecare.

So, you would prefer getting your desktop going faster to getting rid of
malware? OneCare Beta is a program whose time has not yet arrived.

ok. three of you have said "negative" things about onecare. i still have
norton on and will leave it that way; but i hate the long wait for my desktop
to come up. i absolutely hate it!

The biggest problem and which is most tnatable is the Microsoft's anto birus solution has
the poorest catch rate in the anti virus Industry.

I have run tests with a zoo of infectors I have. Those infectors had been submitted to
Microsoft prior to a frecent test which provided a catch rate of only 58%. Imagine what the
catch rate would have been if I had NOT previously submitted the infectors to Microsoft.

I can recomend many anti virus, some are free and some are not. They all will "blow away"
Microsoft's so-called solution. many will also be less resource hogs than Norton AV...

AVAST -
http://www.avast.com/i_idt_1016.html - FREE

AntiVir -
http://www.free-av.com/ - FREE

AVG -
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 - FREE

CA eTrust -
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/index.cfm - FREE for one year.
{ Free offer extended indefinitely }

For other anti virus solutions I suggest Kaspersky and NOD32 in that order. Then Trend
Micro, Sophos, BitDefender and Panda.

There are other antivirus programs that are not so bloated. I use
Eset's NOD32, which uses very few resources and is fast ... also very
good. You might also look into Kaspersky. Panda is another bloated av
app, unfortunately. Once upon a time, it was fast.

Margaret

that made me laugh out loud. but... in defense of my thinking it (microsoft's
onecare) would be wonderful:

i attended my first 'web cast' last week for tips/tricks/techniques on
microsoft publisher and i thought it was excellent. i learned more in that 30
minutes, than i would have in days, weeks, months. the guy hit on all the
good stuff.

i began thinking! ha...that a GIANT like microsoft would do everything
(onecare?) to put a stop to the things that are hindering us and taking up a
lot of time! i just want to work.
