You're not much of an aVENGER, are you? When X-Windows was originally written, the standard Mouse was defined as a 5-button mouse - you should also consider that the standard colours (that means 'colors' ) were based on Crayola (just some more useless information)! Since 'Bill' has stated that Windows Terminal Services may become X-Compatible in the future, it is probably a happy accident that the buttons do anything meaningful. I suggest you migrate (I'll pay the fare if you can find a sinking ship!) to Unix/X-Windows where you will probably find they are still just as useless. Oh!
