unable to use some local printers with Remote Desktop Connection?
I have a user who is using RDC to connect to an XP box remotely for a
client. The connection works fine and he is able to access everything he needs on the remote box but is unable to use some local printers. The connection is setup to allow local printers. He can use the local printer on his machine and two of the five network printers in our office. The problem is those two are the furthest away from his desk and his local printer is a slow inkjet. Why do some printers show up and others do not. All of the network printers are shared from the DC and are setup as LPR printers on the DC. The only difference in the printers is the make/model. The two that show up are a Lexmark 3650 and a HP LJ4. The three that do not show up are an HP LJ4200 (this is the one that I want to work, it's closest to his desk), and HP LJ1200 and a Canon IR5000 copier/printer. I've tried setting up the LJ 4200 locally on his pc with an IP port, but this didn't work. Connecting via a parallel cable is not practical. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, John |

I Figured this out on my own. The drivers for the local printer were not
installed on the remote machine. I installed a fake printer to LPT1 on the remote box just to get the drivers on it, logged off and reconnected and it installed the printer I wanted. John I'll bet Printers connected USB were not available while any printer
connected through Parallel port were available! "John" wrote in message ... I have a user who is using RDC to connect to an XP box remotely for a client.
