Preventing OS updates through a managed network?
I am using my personal laptop with XP for consulting
work, my client is a huge fortune 500 company and does updates of its desktop systems all the time. I want to have internet access only and do not want them to modify or update my system in anyway through their network updates...How can I accomplish this? Thank you |

Before you will be allowed to attached your unknown unmanaged , possibly unsecured and virus ridden laptop to there tightly controlled and managed network you will have to be approved by various routes. One of these will probably involve the IT department. Your questions about what you can and cannot do etc will be best answered by them due to the specific nature of your situation. -- Regards, Mike -- Mike Brannigan [Microsoft] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights Please note I cannot respond to e-mailed questions, please use these newsgroups wrote in message ... Preventing OS updates through a managed network?
So much for Microsoft for help and my system is not virus
ridden the only issues of security come from the massive holes left in the OS by Microsoft, and to allow access through the firewall with no possibility to access other resources which can become compromised should be no problem at all. -----Original Message----- wrote in message ... My comment was that from a corporate network administrators perspective they have significantly more to fear from you and as such they should be tightly controlling your ability to access their network with such an unknown device as represented by your PC. There are a number of ways that by attaching your machine to their environment they could gain some degree of control of your device and thus make configuration changes etc. However - you will have to take their advice on what they demand or require you to do to be allowed to join their environment. Irrespective of any settings or advice you are provided about how to prevent them doing anything to you - you have no right to make any demand about this, as you are attaching your device to their network - they are perfectly within their rights to require you to meet any conditions to allow you access. -- Regards, Mike -- Mike Brannigan [Microsoft] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights Please note I cannot respond to e-mailed questions, please use these newsgroups wrote in message ...
