Windows 10 is by default showing unoccupied USB drive ports now?

Mainly curious. Thanks.

Card reader ?

Card reader with the preference set to show a
drive letter, even when media is not inserted ?

There should be a setting somewhere, to disable that.

Yes, or something like that. It is on my end.

Thanks.

I always thought that switch was for hiding drives with no
data on them. You know, as in "Empty recycle bin". Regardless
of whether that is true or not... Ever since that switch was
available, I have had it unchecked. After Paul's reply, I
simply plugged in a USB flash drive which appeared as drive
G, clearly answering my question. The drives I mentioned "USB
Drive (E" and "USB Drive (F" have disappeared. Do not
know where they came from or where they went. Do not need to
know. Wherever they are, they are doing just fine.

A "Photo" inkjet printer with USB cable, some
of those have a card reader slot on the front of the
printer, for printing pictures from a digital camera.
And such a card reader could show up in File Explorer.

Card readers drive me nuts with all the drive
letter they grab. And they don't require anything
in the drive either.
