Default Connect two routers?

i'm going to upgrade my LAN from wired to
mixed (wired + 802.11g) yet i'll still need
more then the 4 wired ports that come
with the Linksys WRT54G i'm considering.

can i use my Linksys BEFSR41 as JUST a
switch and connect to to my new router?

thanks,
phil

I think what u meant is use your older linksys as a router and new router as
a gateway. And yes u can. A Gateway is your connection to outside of the
intranet (ie - The Internet) There are Administrative options in the router
to let you do this. On a Linksys router to gain access is usually
http://192.168.1.1 and the password being admin with no user name. That is
provided you have not changed these default settings.

Good Luck

Thanks William.

I assumed *replacing* our router with an 802.11g model
would be the easiest way to add wireless to our LAN.
And then, to get the # of wired ports we need, simply
"extend" the new router with a switch.

I least i know it can be done and (with a little help from
the manuals) it should be fairly easy to setup.

Phil,

To use a BEFSR41 router as a hub (switch), to simply multiplex one port on the
WRT54G, you have to:
1) Disable DHCP on the BEFSR41.
2) Connect the WRT54G, and all computers, as peers to the LAN side of the
router.
3) Set the LAN address of the BEFSR41 to something on the LAN of the WRT54G,
but outside the DHCP scope.

This will net you 3 ports.
