settings screen dims after 5 seconds

Hi,

This is my first posting in this group.

When I go to settings in Windows 10 (on my desktop PC) the background
is dark and everything on the screen is easy to read. In about five
seconds the screen dims so that it is very difficult to read.

I can't seem to find in settings where I can change that and it is only
here in the settings screen where I see the screen get dim.

Have you been to Settings/System/Display and adjusted the brightness?

of the settings screen being the only one that dims and it dims in
about five seconds.

Checking the power and sleep settings they are 10 minutes or longer for
each.

Most desired would have been to discover the source of the screen
dimming.
When I went settings - Colors - Default app mode and I switched it
from dark to light then there was no screen dimming.

I'm fine with that but a little bit irked that nothing I could find
online explained the dimming effect.

Good catch and that is the right fix. I did not think about the
Personalization feature for light or dark theme - especially since you said
it was delayed 5 seconds before everything dimmed. Those are symptom's
(delay) I see on tablets and monitors that have auto-dimming features.
