Anybody know how to get the current cpu temp from windows xp?

No software in XP, you will have to use 3rd party software
for that.

There's nothing built in to Windows XP that will tell you the CPU
temperature although there are quite a few utilities out there that will.
The CPU temp is often times available in the BIOS as well.

Go to the web site of the maker of your motherboard and get their
utility. Otherwise, use Motherboard Monitor (a freebie download).

No matter what software you use, your motherboard must have the sensors in
order to read the temps. Refer to the documentation for your MB.
