Lan access password

Running a home Lan, peer to peer WinXP Pro, (no server software)
1. I use WinXP pro sp3 on all my machines on my LAN.

2. We all boot without passwords, I think it defaulted that way at install
giving us the "owner.whatever" account names.

3. We are all on the same named Workgroup

I am not so concerned about boot up login passwords (but will do if necessary)
but I do want to find a way (if possible) to setup LAN access passwords
for each node of the work group.
Can I do this ?

( I have already searched my control panel and cannot find anything on this other
than the standard User Acct passwords which did not cause network access
prompting for a password.)
Also does implementing logon password protection offer any protection against
a virus or Trojan attack, or does it only prevent local physical (or Lan) users from
unauthorized access ?

Ensure simple file sharing is off on all computers, create common user
accounts on each computer, assign those accounts common passwords, create
directories and shares using those users to limit the NTFS and share
permissions to just them.

Or - better yet - purchase an inexpensive home NAS device and create
accounts on that device for users to utilize with one all-powerful account
that can access all folders/files on that NAS (just in case.)

Ok I understand how to do that, but could you please define "common" .
See my wireless won't work unless run it on an account with Admin privledges.
In fact if I tried to run it on a limited account once and the machine froze.
Something to do with the broadcom wireless driver and the broadcom site
doesn't list my exact driver updates.
