I want to hide my pc from the workgroup so that other users cannot see and
access my pc from the network places or by any other way.

Try setting the Lmanannounce DWord to 1 at
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserve r\parameters

This only makes your machine not discoverable by browsing
with the MS Network client or WINS database examination.
It does not make your machine unreachable "in any other way"

go into the local group policy and search around. From
here you can deny network access, hide your drives, etc...
be carfull though so you don't lock yourself out of the
machine.

LMAnnounce governs broadcasts to LanMan (c:a 1990) vintage systems. It is
not actually turned on by default any longer and it does not hide the system
from modern machines. To do that, go to a command line and run

net config server /hidden

That will configure the machine not to announce itself at all. It will,
however, not stop people from connecting to it if they can find it. What
exactly are you trying to prevent?

Thanks for the correction Jesper.
That was off the top of memory at the moment.

So it is setting DWord value nmed Hidden to 0x1
at same location as mentioned in first post.
(I even got the value reverse for LMannounce !!)
