Disk management
Windows management console starts and all the functions work perfectly
except disk management. After about a 30-second wait it shows as unresponsive and I need a 3-finger reset to stop it. There are no disk faults as far as I can ascertain. Any ideas please? -- John www.weather.johnwnice.co.uk |

The drive you are booted to will require a reboot |

The only events recorded then a Windows security audit - logon and special logon System ; virtual disk service started This article seems to suggest the "diskpart" command line program, should suffer similar symptoms. You can run DiskPart from an Administrator Command Prompt window and see what kind of error it throws. https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/870912 There are a few suggestions here, on the VDS service, and in one case, a user claims an environment variable was not being parsed by the system properly. Since I'm not limiting myself to Windows 8 when selecting these threads, some of the suggestions might need to be "translated". http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...f-818efcca2049 This thread suggests non-harddrive devices can hold up the service (prevent VDS from finishing its initial scan for devices). http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...3-c1f42e3b1ace Some Partition Management tools seem to be insistent that they have exclusive access, but I don't know if I've seen the Disk Management plugin do that. I think it plays nice, if a Partition Manager program is already running at the time. Paul |

I guess I'll ignore 'optional' updates from now on. -- John www.weather.johnwnice.co.uk |
