Windows 10 searches
Is there a way to search Windows 10 for apps and OS functions?
Something like the search routine on files and folder from File Explorer. I find Cortana a truly frustrating program. I do not want talk to my computer and do not want it talking to me! |

I do not want talk to my computer and do not want it talking to me! Cortana can be ON or OFF. The area of the Task Bar where Cortana lives, will turn into a sedate text box, if you turn Cortana off. I don't know if federated search syntax has a notation for Apps or Programs or not. The search box tries to separate results by "domain", so if you type text in the box down there, a matching program would be at the top of the returned search result. If you see the search box threatening to search Bing or use Internet Explorer, then you know what you've typed is just not working to get the job done. Like here, I'm going to modify my search terms, because I don't want Edge/IE opening and using Bing. Notice no "program name" percolated to the top of this attempted search. http://res1.windows.microsoft.com/re...8cefb7e_34.png And in the time it would take me to learn about the "My Stuff" button, I've probably already switched over to Agent Ransack to do the search. If you haven't programmed the Search Indexer (in Control Panels) to index everything, then there won't be a large enough index to do a comprehensive search of the hard drive. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ything-cortana It's one of those things, where the closer to being a Computer Science major you are, the better you'll get along with the Windows search function :-) It's like the old search, only with added annoying animations... Where is Clippy when we need him ? Oh yeah, melted down and re-poured to make the "Cortana circle" thingy. Good luck, Paul |

Now that I know there is something other that Cortina, I will dig around in Windows 10 to find it. Thanks |

There are lots better search alternatives than what comes with Windows. I use and recommend Agent Ransack for File Names and Search Everything for content--both free. |

I find Cortana a truly frustrating program. I do not want talk to my computer and do not want it talking to me! I use Classic Start menu. It's much like Win 7 Start menu. I has a search box that works better than the Win 10 POS. The Win 10 POS start is behind it, and can be accessed by an icon in Classic start. I have switched back and forth and prefer the Classic Start. BYW; it's free. |

I do not want talk to my computer and do not want it talking to me! I just don't want Cortana "talking to anyone else" - you know, like SPYING on what I search for... |
