password headache, help, please
Hi,
I have a supervisor password, let's say X. I want to change it now for Y. So I went to BIOS and made the change. It happens as soon as I start the computer, before entering Windows. Now at the first step Y is accepted, THEN I am asked for the password again, and Y is refused. I get an error message "primary master hard disk locked". So I went to BIOS again, and I see nothing saying it is locked or how. But if I go on, the password X is accepted. So I am now with 2 passwords and don't know what to do to get rid of X. Could you please help me with what to do to solve this problem? Thanks a lot |

There are probably 2 password locations, one for the system start up and one for changing bios
settings. Check the motherboard documentation for an explanation of the 2. If you can't find that, Google for something like BIOS passwords and you should get many hits. -- Dave Vair CNE, CNA, MCP, A+, N+ "JL" wrote in message ... Contact the motherboard/laptop manufacturer.

Thanks a lot Most IDE hard drives, manufactured after a certian date (2001ish) have the ability, implemented within the drive's firmware to password-lock a drive. I've yet to see a BIOS that controlled this feature, but, its been around for enough years, it's about time to see see a bios that controlls this. It may also have been done with a utility within Windows, or on a Boot disk. |
