Messenger Constantly trying to Access Internet
Hi,
I've turned off Messenger AND uninstalled it as well as turned it off in services.msg, and dis-allowed it to run in the background. However, about every 2 minutes, my Norton Personal Firewall (2003) detects an attempt to connect to the internet and displays the following description: Details: An instance of "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" is preparing to access the Internet for the first time How do I keep Messenger from continually trying to gain Internet access? This has become very annoying! Mike M |

Messenger Constantly trying to Access Internet
Greetings Mike,
Actually what you're seeing is a result of Norton Antivirus 2003's Messenger protection. Norton added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and cause some of this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK. -- ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Mike M." wrote in message ...
