Boots fine Except Safe Mode
I am confused over a PC I have. the system boots fine normally, but If
I try to boot into safe mode the system gets somewhere into loading drivers and then goes into a re boot. Any suggestions on where to look for the problem? TIA |

Safe Mode uses a fixed list of drivers. Have you tried an alternate
Safe Mode startup, VGA Mode ? It's possible that one of "Basic" drivers required for Safe Mode is missing or corrupted. When you try Safe Mode does the system reach the Login screen or does it fail prior to that ? Knowing this would help determine if it's a driver issue or one with a user profile (Administrator). wrote in message ... When trying Safemode, I do not get to the login screen. (does this
imply it is a driver issue?) Why would a regular boot work but a safe mode would not? Can the boot log help identify any problems or would the actual culprit get lost due to the restart? A driver is the likely cause. A regular or normal boot would not try
and load the generic/basic driver so that is why a normal boot works as expected. ( Loads your specific 3rd-Party video driver ). A boot log might help. I would also try a Safe Mode boot and then reboot normally and check the System Event log for errors. wrote in message ... When trying Safemode, I do not get to the login screen. Boots fine Except Safe Mode
I had this problem on 2 XP computers, after a lot of experimentation I
discovered that a program called HandyBackup was causing the issue - when I uninstalled HandyBackup, Safe Mode worked fine. It would be a good idea to do a disk image backup before doing the following. Do you know when it last booted into safe mode? If so, try removing programs (starting with those that install drivers) one by one and see if you can find the culprit. You could also try system restore to various points (undoing each restore) and see if there is a point where safe mode works - that may give you a clue " wrote: I am confused over a PC I have. the system boots fine normally, but If I try to boot into safe mode the system gets somewhere into loading drivers and then goes into a re boot.
