Default What is this strange new Windows file-system beast (C:\Windows\System32\wuaueng.dll)?

Well, think of it this way.

Is there a difference in the services that run on the two
different SKUs of Windows 10 ? They're both likely to have
wuaueng and wuauclt and the like.

Home lacks GPEDIT. Pro has GPEDIT (policy editor).

GPEDIT is just supposed to be "registry changes".

If the (4) and (5) in your list are modifying the registry,
sure it's possible for each of those OSes to treat (or ignore)
certain registry settings. But the author of those applications
could just as easily give you a "laundry list of OSes that
don't work", on their web page. If the web page says
it "Works On Windows 10" that implies the method is general
enough, to not need to worry about those sorts of details.

Before I installed (4) or (5), I'd want to try a little
"due diligence" on them first, find out where the authors
live, whether these people are on MDL or whatever. And
see if there are any comments about what they're doing.

All your comments are reasonable, given the only known methods a
1. Rename wuaueng.dll using linux boot dvd
2. Disable Windows Update Service & related Task Scheduler Services
3. Disable Windows Update Service & change the LOA for wuauserv to Guest
4. WUB https://www.sordum.org/9470/windows-...-blocker-v1-0/
5. WIM http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/deta..._minitool.html

Where I'd summarize Paul's comments as:
#1, #2, and #3 methods should work on all Windows 10.
(But #2 might no longer work, based on something I remember Bob_S wrote.)
#4 & #5 may work if they don't do Win10Pro-special stuff in the registry.

Thanks for helping answer the question for Maurice.

Which is much appreciated...

In the meantime I'm contemplating changing my PC order to include Win10
Pro.
I'm just curious what difference from W10 Home I shall notice.
(Hoping nothing missing from Pro that is in Home, e.g.:

bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\whatever.efi

to set default boot .efi file.)
