Is there a way to make the floppy disk drive just go away?
I do not have a "Floppy Disk Drive (A
 ".Yet a floppy disk drive shows up in "This PC". Is there a way to make this floppy disk drive just go away? I repeat there is no physical floppy disk drive in the desktop. Following all the IDE cables out of the power supply, there are disk drives and a dvd drive and an adapter to the main fan. And a connection to the motherboard. There is no floppy disk drive.

Other times, while you may not have a physical floppy drive, you may have a card reader (of many types) that are plugged into a USB port right on the motherboard. Signal and power would be furnished via the USB port. Since you dug into the hardware already, look into Device Manager and see what extra drive letters show up on any devices. Also, there are ways to assign drive "A:" (floppy drive) to a an add-on device and/or did you ever plug in a USB floppy drive or an external DVD/CD to a USB port. Not knowing your hardware configuration makes it difficult to provide an answer without writing a book, so please try booting into the BIOS and look for drive assignments and make any changes there to eliminate using "A" or "B" drives. -- Bob S.

On the motherboard, you'd have a floppy connector, which looks like an IDE connector but is shorter. Look in the UEFI (often erroneously called BIOS) and disable the floppy controller. Windows should notice the hardware that is no longer there and disable the icon(s). Note that you will probably NOT see drive letters in the UEFI,, since those are only a Windows thing. BTW, my Windows system has no floppy controller and never shows A: in "This PC" other than when I connect a USB floppy (very seldom). -- 105 days until the winter celebration (Tue Dec 25, 2018 12:00:00 AM for 1 day).
