Default Auto Run

I am not sure if this is a Windows problem, or something
I should contact HP about, but currently when I put any
kind of disc into my Cd-ROM drive it does not start
automatically; makes no difference if it is a game,
software to be installed, DVD movie, music CD, it just
does not start on its own.

Upon contacting one website inquiring about why I could
not get a Special Features disc to work, the response
was, that if I had all the current updates for the
software required, and all the XP Windows Home Edition
patches, and Service Pack 1 installed, then perhaps
AutoRun was the problem.

And since nothing starts automatically, I have to believe
that AutoRun is not working.

Thank you

Diane

I have had that problem a few times and it was always that the CD-ROM drive
was defective--they are cheap so if you do not find a solution, buy another
one--they do go out.

Default Auto Run

Hi Diane,

Are you sure the Auto-run feature is on?
Goto My computer.
Right click on the CD-Rom/DVD Drive, click properties.
Now you should see a form, with some tabs on top of it.
Find the one with "AutoPlay" as caption.
Now check the checkbox in the bottom, to get windows to show a menu with
some options each time you insert a cd/dvd in the drive. (the checkbox has
the caption "Promt me each time to choose an action").
