Default WiFi Shuts Down

From: "OldGuy"

One last time...
What is the WiFi chip-set/mini-PCI module ?

Did not have time until now to figure that out.

Network Adapters
1394 Net Adapter
LAN Express 802.11 PCI Adapter
Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

HP Laptop.
zt1190

You mean a HP Pavilion ZT1190 ?

I want you to go to Device Manager. Right-Click on the "LAN Express 802.11
PCI Adapter" and choose properties.

If the driver version is LESS THAN version 1.7.29.2118

Download...
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/softwa...mu/HP_WLAN.exe

It uses a mini-PCI card for wireless. It is located in a trap door under
the notebook and is removed by 2 ~ 4 screws and 1 or two wires.

I want you to go to Device Manager. Right-Click on the "LAN Express 802.11
PCI Adapter" and choose "uninstall"

Shutdown the notebook.

Turn it over and physically REMOVE the LAN Express 802.11 mini-PCI card.

Turn the notebook over and power-up the notebook.

If the driver version recorded is LESS THAN version 1.7.29.2118 then
Install the above driver update.

Shutdown the notebook.

Re-install LAN Express 802.11 mini-PCI card

Reboot the notebook. The LAN Express 802.11 card should Plug 'n Play the
drivers.

Use and test the system.

Pavillion? yes.
Yes Pavillion zt1190 per the label on the front of the laptop.

WEP? yes.
yes it is WEP only. The router used is an AMPED R20000G that has a
Guest WiFi that is set for WEP using the long fixed length password.
Main access is WPA etc. Signal strength to this laptop is three bars.
When laptop is working it downloads large files very quickly i.e. seems
to be few transmission errors.

Installed driver?
The LAN Express driver shows as 1.7.29.20118.
I downloaded the driver for a look see. Same version.
Did not install as was the same version.

If you mean uninstalling, taking out the NIC etc, then no. kind of
scary.
What would that do? I need a little understanding to work up the
courage to unscrew things etc.

Its to force a reinstall of the software.

It isn't scary. You'll learn a little and if the NIC is bad then you would
trhen know what to do to replace it.
