AV query - Is this statement true?
Quote:
In Windows Vista/Windows 7 Windows Defender was an Anti-spyware Program. Microsoft re-wrote the Program to make it a *full Anti-virus Program* which comes as part of the Windows 8/8.1 Operating System. == Is this true? WD in Win8/8.1 is basically a rebranded Microsoft Security Essentials. Surely you didn't expect them to come up with a unique new name, did you? At least they didn't name it Microsoft Outlook Security. eg -- ~Bruce |

I didn't think to look. :-( "In Windows 8, Microsoft upgraded Windows Defender into an antivirus program comparable to Microsoft Security Essentials.[11] This new Windows Defender greatly resembles Microsoft Security Essentials and uses the same virus definition updates." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Defender |

Will this in-built anti-virus facility also be included in Windows 10? |

Will this in-built anti-virus facility also be included in Windows 10? Of course. BTW, it's better to think of it as "anti-malware", since it defends against all kinds of stuff that can compromise your system. But you, the user, are still the most serious security risk. I accept that comment in the spirit in which you write it, but there's NO protection from a zero-day drive-by download - is there?!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-by_download "Hackers use different techniques to obfuscate the malicious code, so that antivirus software is unable to recognize it. The code is executed in hidden iframes, and can go undetected". Apple includes similar defences in OS-X, it just doesn't draw attention to that fact. Has done it that way from the very beginning. Most updates to your current OS-X are to patch security holes. I appreciate you comments. Thank you Wolf K. There must be some subtle differences though - as Malwarebytes (MBAM) has so far been unable to come up with a version which will work on OS X! Have a good day, You too! :-) |
