selling all our data they gather with Windows 10 and with the

Here goes a person with limited intelligence telling us what exactly he
really thinks about Microsoft. He forgot to put the usual caveat that
he should disclose that he is a man with limited intelligence and
Microsoft knows that he is plain stupid. No wonder he doesn't like
anything Microsoft does yet he continues to use Microsoft products.

Your unnecessary vitriol in a newsgroup where people come for help,
tells everyone a lot about you as well.

What-the-**** is wrong with you?

Are you so desperate for attention that you are willing to make a
complete ass of yourself just to get anyone to reply?

Go take your meds, chime back in once they have mitigated your demons.

Which sentence in the above quote (by that person of low intelligence
A.K.A Stan Brown) made you think is "asking for help"? Are you looking
for help yourself in your comprehension of English language? We can't
provide you here because this is a Windows 8 newsgroup where people ask
staright questions without resorting to attacking Microsoft.

In fact we should be asking you what the **** is wrong with you? Out of
nowhere, you just got up and decided to poke your smelly nose into
something you haven't clue at all.

complete ass of yourself just to get anyone to reply?

I thought your post is quite clear that you appear to be seeking attention;

Go take your meds, chime back in once they have mitigated your demons.

You have taken yours right? it ddoesn't appear to have mitigated any of
your demons yet so why not double the dossage to see if it makes any
difference.

Indeed it is -- if you like having Microsoft know everything you
type, including all your bank account numbers and passwords.

Although Microsoft is pushing updates to add that "telemetry" to
Windows 7 and 8, so far it's been possible to prevent them if you are
careful.

He expressed an opinion of MS' latest tactics, and whether you agree
with it or not, did not call for your insults. As for your insults to
me, it's your reading comprehension that needs some help. You're
wasting your time, because I definitely do not care what you think of my
intelligence. Your future insulting [or not] messages won't be read.

Again, what-the-**** is wrong with you?

Schizotypal personality disorder seems like it might be a reasonable
diagnosis.

Hi,

I know much has been written about disabling the nagging pop-up
pushing
Windows 10, mainly by disabling and "hiding" KB3035583. I haven't done
that yet, mainly because I suspect that some other KB will
reinstate the
nagging at some point in the future. I've been keeping my eye on the
issues associated with the "upgrade" and feel that Win10 is not ready
for prime time.

Now that the pop-up is taking about half the screen and interfering
with
my work by disrupting uploads/downloads, etc., I'm ready to move. The
question that I have is, has disabling KB3035583 been effective at
killing this absurd advertisement?

I have had good luck with the GWX Control Panel found at;

http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/201...ly-remove.html

It lets you pick what it does from the menu, or nothing if you
choose to
exit out of it.

Much better than those point and shoot programs that don't let you see
what it will affect before it actually gets destructive.

I have used it on W7 and W8 machines and it seems to do what it says.

Should you later want to actually install W10 you can run it again and
undue what you have blocked. If you actually deleted the download
folders mentioned, if they even exist on your machine, you can use the
Media Creation tool to install from.

Thanks for the pointers. I'm sure that many would find this approach
helpful, but I don't want another layer of programs running in the
background. I don't know when or if I'll update to Windows 10, since all
I've seen so far presents additional management burdens with no real
improvements in functionality.

It's not really another layer of programs. You run it once, it makes
changes, then it exits and you're done. If/when you change your mind, you
run it again, it makes changes, and then it exits and you're done.

Thanks. I must have gotten the wrong impression when I read the page.
So, it's a program to automate the process that MS recommends to disable
and hide their KB (per the link I first posted)? If so, that doesn't
sound permanent, either.

OK... after trying to do it "the MS way", only to find that the icon
*reappeared* after restarting (yes, I did the "hide" thing and so
forth), I did download and run gwx-stopper. We'll see, but so far, so good.

Thanks for the pointers to this app. If it holds, I'll even gladly
donate to the cause.

Neil
