I just took the plunge into Win 10 and have noticed that it regularly
wants me to sign in with an MS account. Can anyone tell me how to stop
Win 10 from asking me to sign in with one?

By "regularly", do you mean during the install phase ?

The install is designed to catch the unwary.

If you go to use the Store, there might be a prompt there.

if you do something which has "Cloud entanglement", then
you would expect a prompt for that. If some feature needed
to sync your desktop with another desktop for example. Or
you expect to use OneDrive.

But in regular usage here, without an MSA, I can't say I
"regularly" get prompted.

I have an MSA I use only for the Win10 Insider program,
and the installs are done with that set up. Since I
only have one copy of Insider running at any one time,
there isn't a wealth of syncing opportunities, so I
don't get pestered.

Are you sure you are not using the pirated version?

Yes.

Â* How much did you
pay for your copy of Windows 10.

122 euros.

Microsoft has stopped giving away a
free copy so you must have stolen it from somewhere.

**** you, asshole.

Sorry we don't support thieves here.

Who is we, stupid?

You need to prove to us that you
have a genuine copy of Windows 10 before we can supply solutions here.

No I don't.

Good bye.

**** off, troll.

It isn't consistent. Sometimes I just get a notification telling me how
wonderful life is with one and it also happens if I play one of the
installed games. So I guess I will just have to put up with it if there
is no way to tell it to shut up.

I currently have local accounts on my W10 devices and MS doesn't bug me.
However I once had MS accounts on them, so perhaps that's why? The only
problem I've noticed with the local account is that the MS store refuses
to download some apps.

Nothing prevents one from setting up and using a local account which has
no connection to MS accounts. That said, to avoid *all* of the
opportunities that MS takes to assimilate users, you will need to be
very familiar with the OS's options and settings. I'm not sure it's
worth the effort, given that having an MS account doesn't require using it.

If the OS is activated, you will have a working "Personalize"
section in Settings.

Make a methodical pass through Settings and turn *everything* off.

That's a start. You'd be surprised how many little sliders
there are for "deliver stupid advertising in a repetitious fashion"
in Settings :-/ Since some of the settings might not be in
plain English, just turn them all off.

When I purchased a new W10 Lenovo LT and signed it in to my MS account
MS promptly forwarded my email address to Lenovo and I started getting
Lenovo spam. I didn't even have time to turn anything off. That made me
wonder who else MS was forwarding my info to. That's when I changed over
to a local account. But unfortunately that may just be closing the barn
door...

False.

Microsoft never sells eMail accounts to anybody. Microsoft is not in
the business of selling eMails.

Lenovo got your eMail because you are using Lenovo and their installed
crap managed to steal your credentials. ALL OEMS HAVE THEIR OWN tools
installed to make their life easier to harvest users web surfing habits.
Lenovo is a Chinese Company and you use Chinese products at your peril.
IBM sold their PC business to the Chinese who paid over the odds to
steal your credentials.

The only way to reduce such risks is to wipe the disk clean - for a new
machine and to reinstall the operating system from Microsoft Source.
Activation is not a problem these days because Microsoft has managed to
specialise in this technology to catch pirates like Chris, WhetherMan,
Johnson and pinney.

DON'T BLAME MICROSOFT FOR YOUR STUPIDITY.

I get it about 50% of the time when I log in. And, yes, I've paid for
it.

It doesn't just ask me to log into my Microsoft account. It tells me
that my first attempt at logging has failed and I should try my
Microsoft account. I just ignore it and my normal login works the
second time.

Did you use Netplwiz to set up auto-login at startup,
then go and change the value of your password on the
account later ?
