How to customize folder templates in windows explorer
Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
The topic says it all: I'm looking for a way to customize the folder templates in the windows explorer. In particular I'd like to change the standard view for document folders from "tiles" to "details". I definitely do NOT want to apply the "details" view to all folders, but only those folders which are assigned the documents template. Sincerely Christian |

How to customize folder templates in windows explorer
Hello,
You can customize your folder views on a one by one basis. All you need to do is set the folder to detail view, and Windows will remember to open it in detail view the next time you open it. Windows will only remember the settings for up to 400 folders at a time. Later, Ray Parrish Christian Schratter wrote: Good evening ladies and gentlemen. How to customize folder templates in windows explorer
Explorer doesn't work that way.
Your best solution is to create folders to store certain file types and use "Folder View Master" to set the views on those folders, which will apply to all subfolders. For example: C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\My Documents\Docs\ C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\My Documents\PDF\ Folder View Master by MS-MVP Keith Miller (no homepage anymore) http://mysite.verizon.net/res18hr7/FVM3.zip or http://members.home.nl/alsdewiedewee.../FVM3/FVM3.rar Related: FileOpenPatcher from ElmuSoft enlarges the Windows Open File dialog and sets Details view as default. FileOpenPatcher is the successor of the famous MultiEnhancer. How to customize folder templates in windows explorer
Hello!
At first I'd like to thank you for your quick response! "ju.c" wrote: Your best solution is to create folders to store certain file types and use "Folder View Master" to set the views on those folders, which will apply to all subfolders. This is actually a very decent script, and as far as I have seen on a quick test run it pretty much gives one every flexibility to customize folders and subfolders to his needs. Thank you. Still sad that Microsoft on one hand added the (great) feature to assign template-views to a folder (and subfolders) but on the other hand gave no ability to customize these templates - but I think that was fixed with Windows Vista. Kind regards Chris |
