Full DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime (November 2010)?
Hello.
How come Microsoft/MS hasn't posted the full DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime (November 2010) on the Internet? I don't want its dxsetup.exe to download parts online on my crappy Internet connection. Thank you in advance. -- "Did the ant fall off the toilet seat because she was ****ed off?" --unknown /\___/\ Phil./Ant @ http://antfarm.ma.cx (Personal Web Site) / /\ /\ \ Ant's Quality Foraged Links: http://aqfl.net | |o o| | \ _ / If crediting, then use Ant nickname and AQFL URL/link. This is about the best I could do. DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) -- redistributable 95.6MB http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...1-50ceb6d8fa8d ******* Do I understand DirectX and its versioning ? Not really. Try as I might, I can't figure out what the library scheme is all about, or whether there really is any scheme or not. Some games, check for specific, dated versions of files. For example, you might find a game that won't run, unless you go back and install the Jun 2007 version of DirectX 9c. Does that make sense at all ? Is there no notion of "supersede" ? I couldn't figure it out. I just keep installing different ones, until something good happens :-) If you have a game, and no longer have the CD, you might then not have a copy of the Jun 2007 one. (The CD likely has a copy of the version of DirectX the game is "married" to.) Then, it's merry old hell, trying to get your game to run again, as you "search under rocks", looking for copies of it. If you do a search on "oldversion" and "directx", you'll find sites like this. And this is how you straighten out such a mess, if you trust such a download (or can find an MD5SUM for what the original file looked like). http://oldapps.com/directx.php In a word, this is *really crappy*. Brain dead, even. So while it's fun to install the latest one, it's not necessarily a good usage of a limited download facility. I mean, you could download ten different ones, at 95MB a piece, for little practical gain, except a huge directory of obsolete files. Of the 95MB, only a couple of components in there, are the things that certain games are looking for. Paul |
