Default Configuration system failed to initialize

Hi All,

XP Pro SP3

When attempting to connect to an ssh server with SmarTTY-2.2.msi,
I get the following error message:

Cannot connect: Configuration system failed to initialize

This happens on only this XP machine. The rest work fine.

Google is failing me here. Any words of wisdom?

Many thanks,
-T

Since an .msi file is a MicroSoft Installer file, it is an installer
using the MSI service in Windows to *install* a program. That's not the
same as an .exe file to run the program itself. Although they list
Windows XP as supported, could be it's not well supported or not at all,
or you have something in that OS that is restricting the installation.

Did you run the MSI *installer* with the installer process having admin
privileges (i.e., using RunAs if you aren't currently logged in under an
admin-privileged Windows account)?

Have you tried rebooting Windows into its safe mode w/networking to see
if SmarTTY works under a clean[er] environment?

Instead of installing the program, have you tried its portable version?

The portable version works a little better.

It needs .NET 2.0 though, and if you have an ATI
video card on the computer, the ATI installer will
install .NET 2.0 for you. So at least some WinXP users
are covered automatically. Otherwise, you might need
to dig up a 20MB "dotnetfx" 2.0 file and install it.

When I tested smartty on WinXP SP3, to a Linux machine,
I was getting a "passphrase" error, even though I was
sending the right passphrase with my public RSA key.
I couldn't actually log in.

I wasn't getting a very "warm" feeling from that program.
Yes, it passed virustotal, but I can't be 100% sure it's
safe.

I do know that. The reason I wrote the actual file I installed was
because it gave the revision number and the type of installer.
I presumed that you knew I running the exe it installed.

An idea. Thank you.

I noticed that too on one occasion, but not another.

There is always WinSCP for me to test.

Thank you for the help.
