I just tried MSN Messenger, and it is the same.

Hey Torben!

Just found this from earlier messages in this forum and I
think it helped me(attleast no halts for half an hour):

---------
Have you installed DirectX 9? If so, the Windows XP
firewall, DirectX 9, Messenger and the
firewall have issues working together, which can display
the behavior you're seeing. You may
need to turn the firewall off totally, or if you want to
continue using it, turn off the
firewall, load Messenger and then turn the firewall back
on.

To turn it off (and on), click Start, then click the
Control Panel. If you're in category
view click Network and Internet connections then click
Network Connections. Right click the
network or dialup connection, then click Properties.
Click the Advanced Tab, and you will
see the option to turn off/on the Internet Connection
Firewall.

To remove DirectX 9, just use System Restore, click Start,
then Help & Support, then "Undo
changes to my computer using System Restore" and restore
back to before DirectX 9 was
installed.

If System Restore fails, you can also use this uninstaller:
http://www.3dcenter.org/downloads/directx-
dx9uninstaller.php to uninstall DirectX 9.
