Default Unable To See NAS via "Network" but able via NetScan ?

TW700.

I click "Network Places" and only my 24-7 desktop PC shows up. Lots of
other stuff on the LAN, but only that machine shows up.

OTOH, with I run a utility called "NetScan", all devices are shown and I
can even click on the NAS box I want to get to and see it's
shares/folders and get to it's files.

IPCONFIG /ALL shows an IP addr consistent with my LAN and identical to
what NetScan reports.

Can anybody speculate on what is going on with "Network Places" ?

I saw a similar issue a few years ago that might be related. If your issue
is like mine, "master browser" and "election" could be good search keywords.

https://www.google.com/search?q=master+browser+election

Note that browser, in this context, refers to computer browser, not web
browser. In my case, I troubleshot it by unplugging the network connection
of the PC that was currently set as master browser, thus forcing a new
election. Everything was fine then, so I permanently resolved it by making a
Registry entry that identified the good PC as a preferred master browser.

Got it.

System Properties | Computer Name/Domain Changes....

"Workgroup" had defaulted back to "WORKGROUP" when, in fact, my LAN's
workgroup is named "303".

Changed from "WORKGROUP" to "303", rebooted, and the problem had gone
away...... Which is really good because all that Election stuff flew
right over my head... -)

Cool, thanks for reporting back with your success. I never consider the
workgroup angle because I don't use them here. Instead, I use direct IP
access to see my various shares, making workgroup names irrelevant.
