no sound at start up
I have sound when I play some files, but no start up, shut down sounds, no IM
sounds, no email arrived sounds, and no speaker in tray. did all of the suggestions on kelly's, have all driver updates for SoundMax card. What happened?

What 'Theme' are you running?
A Theme is set via Display Properties. Theme is a set of backgrounds plus sounds, icons etc that 'personalise' your PC. I use StyleXP. I am currently using MRS Dream 6. I opened up StyleXP and went
to WindowsXP or Windows Classic style. Then I looked at the sounds, and there were none there! The theme that I currently use has the sounds listed. Does that help?
