Now using Win10 version 1909

There is no Advanced Search option in Windows explorer.

Yes I Googled with no results

I have never had this problem before with previous versions of Windows.

There is no option to set the date in the search bar. According to my
Google search , there is supposed to be a calendar there.

Thanks

Hi Philo,

Windows search has always sucked.

I use SuperFinderXT:

http://fsl.sytes.net/ssearchxt.html

Beware of junkware!

Thank you.
Third party software it is then.

I even booted up some old machines and had to go back to XP to find a nice and simply search tool build into file Explorer.u

They note some brokenness here. There is a feeling that it may
be a side effect of the separation of Cortana from search.
(That provided an impetus for monkeys to fool around in the code.)

datemodified:11/13/2019 .. 11/21/2019 kind:=document

I'm having trouble with my VM fleet at the moment, so it
may take some fiddling around to get some comparison pictures.
This is the working search in 1903, with a datemodified in it.

So absurd.
XP was great.
So I could set the date through the Explorer GUI to get the exact wording I had to manually enter in the search bar.
Functionality was crippled in Win7 and 8
in that one did not get a choice older than one year.
Tried from Linux too and the search function was semi-broken.

Had to turn on a win7 machine to see how they did it

The search helper pops up datemodified:

If I just put the year there it works

Now I need to know have to put in a specific date and also set the date
range

I've never used Explorer and so I've never needed an Explorer search
tool. I've always used alternative browsers and their search tools. I
have used Google Chrome for browsing and searching since it arrived in
2008. I can't remember what I used in XP and earlier. I wrote my own
www browser in HTML once but it not worth the effort these days as
everything is free.

I thought I had lost my mind because it was so easy in Win98 and XP.

The search tool is so crippled that I may have to organize my work, in
such a way that I don't lose it!

This is one of the advantages of third-party tools.
Agent Ransack is another. Or "Everything" tool from
voidtools.com .

One thing to remember, is no tool (not a single one)
is allowed to see every file on the computer. My
favorite example is System Volume Information.

Even the vaunted "nfi.exe" tool I mention occasionally,
cannot list all files. Even though that's what it was
designed for.

In particular, they don't want the shadow copies to be
too exposed and obvious to a user. You can see them
from Linux, but if you touch them, you could destroy
the file system. To some extent, not listing all the
files is for your own protection.
