How do you configure MSN Messenger 6 for a proxy
connection behind a firewall?

open TCP port 1863
IE 6 proxy settings to use port 1080
Set MSN Messenger 6 proxy settings to port 1080

What else am I missing or not doing?

Greetings Chris,

You'll also need port 443 TCP (outgoing) available.

I've looked in the Help file, but it doesn't mentioned
this on opening port 443.

Any thing else I need to do?

Hi Chris,

I know it's not documented -- but that's it.

I still cannot connect. What about the NT authentication
on all browsers with IIS? Will this effect the
connection? What about Identd Simulation Service on Proxy
servers?

I really need step by step on how to accomplish this and
I haven't seen any good websites that do. Any other
suggestions?

Hi Chris,

NT authentication isn't required -- Messenger uses Passport, which is a multi-platform
authentication model (not just Windows) -- identd isn't used either.

What type of proxy are you using?
