Cool Rename PC no DC available

How do I rename Win 2003 server that was originally part of a domain but the domain is no longer available. I can login locally as admin but when I try to change the server name it asks for what seems to be the admin and password for the non existent domain? I don't want to have to re install OS.
thankssssssssssssss

If the domain no longer exists - why is it still a member?

Remove it from the domain.

And when it asks for the username/password that would allow you to dis-join
the domain... Supply it none. It'll work.

You have to remove the server from the domain by making it a member of
a workgroup. Note: once you've done this, no old fomain accounts will
be able to log into the server using cached credentials; make sure
you've created local accounts with the levels of permissions you need
before proceeding.

What does this have to do with Windows XP? Repost to one of the server
groups.
