Default "File and Print Sharing" service keeps disappearing

Is this a bug in Windows XP Professional? Every time I reboot, the File and
Print Sharing service disappears from my network connection. I'm running
the latest SP2 and Windows updates.

I don't think so. I've had XP systems running for years sharing printers
and using a network printer. Has this problem always happened on your
system? If not, what changed? You haven't really give us enough
information to get a specific answer, but here's a link to a Knowledge

This problem seemed to begin after downloading a recent XP security update.
Also the other recent change is that I am using the online backup utilities
from IBackup. I cannot be sure that these are related to the disappearance
of the File and Print Sharing service.

I can reproduce this consistently. I can reboot the system, and the service
will again disappear. I do not believe I have any viruses as I have been
running Norton AntiVirus 2004 thoroughly, as well as Adaware.

I suspect that somehow the network connection settings have become corrupt,
causing the File and Print Sharing service to go away. I am not sure what
files might be involved or how to fix.

I found an error in the event log, "unable to add the interface" that
appears consistently. I searched for common causes of this, and found
several discussion forum posts such as the one below. I also experienced
the strange crashes after SP2. I suspect there is a Microsoft bug yet to be
resolved.

My machine became a bit unstable since I upgraded to Win XP SP2.
Before I could let it run for days and now it is rebooting by itself
with memory dump multiple times a day. See below a dump. I also
noticed the following error in the event viewer before a crash but it
could be a red hearing:
"Unable to add the interface
{13F0FD7F-E4AC-4387-A4AA-C95C40DDCC79} with the Router Manager for
the IP protocol. The following error occurred: Cannot complete this
function."

Update - I found that this problem was caused by XP SP2 incompatibility with
the IDrive Plus software. I replaced it with a new release of IDrive and it
works. IBackup Corp needs to also update their IDrive Plus software and
make their users aware.
