Default registry question/help

I need to make a change in the registry to delete a program. I have made
several attempts but not successful yet. The file that I am trying to
delete shows up in several areas and if I delete all of them, then I
have other problems. Is there somewhere or something that I go to to
find out what each command means in the registry.
TIA

Well I learned by many years of trial and error. And the first thing I
would ask is the name of the file you are trying to get rid of? As
depending on the file, this might be the wrong way to do this.

And it sounds like you are doing this anyway, but you should make a
backup of the registry before you make any changes. You are doing this
right?

A much better idea is to simply reinstall the program and then uninstall it,
and you should be "good to go", IF you are having some problems uninstalling
it now. I'm curious why you think you need to make a change to the registry
to delete a program? What file if any is being locked? (deleting a file
and deleting something in the registry are two different things)

Another idea (if you are currently unable to uninstall the program) is: you
might try RevoUninstaller - just be careful with its settings.

Well, I guess I should have given the long story of my problem.
My computer (Win XP, sp3 and all updates) has a rapid access keyboard,
which is great for the wife. The program that loads it is "SKDAEMON".
My problem is when I power up I expect the desktop to appear and stay
there until an operation is started. This has been the case for several
years now but recently had to reformat/reload my system due to a virus.
Everything has been reloaded normally but now when I do a power up my
system starts up my internet connection. I can close the connection and
a few minutes later it is back to being connected.

I remember a few years ago having this same problem and somehow got it
resolved but my memory recall is not working too well. I did remember
that a file "SKSMAILD.EXE" is the main culprit. After a power up I can
go into task manager and remove it as a process and my system will work
normally until I do another power up operation.

I did a backup of my registry and went into it and deleted all
references to "SKSMAILD.EXE" and it caused another problem. This is
where I am now and am just wondering how I can tell which entry in the
registry is causing the file to load.

Hopefully I made this as clear as mud....
TIA

Your best chance is to uninstall the program in the conventional way and
then to reboot the system. After rebooting, run CCleaner (there is an
item called Registry in that tool). This should do the job perfectly.

I better pre-empt one thing: You will read a lot hear people saying
that "never use a registry cleaner". My advice to you is to ignore them
because Ccleaner has never done any damage to my system and I have used
it for as long as I could care to remember.

The slim version can be downloaded from he

Oh you don't want to remove this through the registry. Something more on
the likes of this:

Google "SKSMAILD.EXE" will give you more helpful hints.
